WILLIAMSBURG - William Morrow Requa died peacefully Saturday, June 19, 2004, at his residence in Chambrel, Williamsburg, Va. A descendent of early settlers in the colonies of New York and Connecticut, he was born in Hudson, N.Y., on Aug. 22, 1909, and graduated from Cornell University in 1931. He began his career as an economist and statistician in New York City, moving to the Washington, D.C., area in 1937, where he was a trade association executive representing the Association of Sugar Producers of Puerto Rico for many years. A Veteran of World War II, he received a Direct Commission with the U.S. Navy Supply Corps, serving on active duty from May 1943 to February 1946. He remained in the Reserves after the war, retiring with the rank of Commander. After living in the Washington area for over 50 years, he relocated to Fords Colony in Williamsburg, Va., in 1988. Mr. Requa is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean W. Requa, also of Chambrel; a son, William V N Requa of Williamsburg, and his wife, Frances; a daughter, Patricia J. Requa of Sacramento, Calif.; granddaughters, Stephanie J. Requa of Tulsa, Okla., Jennifer R. Hankins of Austin, Texas, and her husband, Steven, and Eren R. Hendricks of Leesburg, Va., and her husband, James; along with great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Nathan Hawkins, and Josephine and Megan Hendricks. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
