Vernon F. Cornwell, age 65, died at his home in Manassas, Virginia December 9, 2010.

Vernon was born February 18, 1945, to Franklin and Thelma Cornwell and is predeceased by his sister Gloria Lee Harris.

He was the Quality Control Manager for Shannon Auto Sales in Manassas. Vernon attended Osbourn High School and graduated from Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina, initially attending on a football scholarship. Vernon was well recognized for his athletic abilities, and particularly, his love of baseball.

Vernon was the man anyone could come to for advice and it was wise to take his advice because he didn't often error. Vernon cared deeply for his family and friends. His grand-children, Hope and Tripp Collier held a very special place in his heart.

Surviving Vernon is his devoted wife, Elizabeth Colliflower; daughters, Melinda Cornwell Nugent of Dallas, Texas and Megan Cornwell Collier of Crofton, Maryland; sons, Vincent Vernon Bell of Dallas, Texas and Christopher Charles Cornwell of Manassas; his parents, Thelma and Frank; brother-in-law Joe Harris; niece, Lisa Harris; nephews, Mark, Mike, and Bart Harris; and grandchildren Hope and Tripp Collier.

Visitation will be Monday, December 13, 2010, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street in Manassas. Funeral services will be 12 Noon, Tuesday, December 14, 2010, also at Pierce Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Clements officiating and interment following at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, Virginia. Vernon's family will host a reception after the funeral service.
