Retired bank VP lived for his grandson

Former Staten Island resident Peter C. Abdo, 81, of Brooksville, Fla., a retired bank executive, died Sunday of pneumonia in Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville.

Born in Union City, N.J., Mr. Abdo moved to Brooklyn with his family as a child. He relocated to Great Kills in 1960 and settled in Florida in 1995.

Mr. Abdo graduated from Fort Hamilton High School, Bay Ridge, and earned a bachelor's degree from New York University.

He served as a private in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and England during the Korean War.

Mr. Abdo was a vice president with the former Chemical Bank for 30 years.

He enjoyed bowling, as well as his weekly visits to the Veterans of Foreign War Post in Brooksville. He also "lived for his grandson," said Mr. Abdo's son, Peter.

On Staten Island, Mr. Abdo was a parishioner of St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills.

His wife of 52 years, the former Maryellen Bannan, died in 2008.

In addition to his son, Peter, Mr. Abdo is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth and Maria Abdo, and a grandson.

Arrangements are being handled by the Downing Funeral Home, Spring Hill, Fla. Burial will take place at a later date in Calverton (L.I.) National Cemetery.
