Shipley, Opal

SHIPLEY, Opal formerly of Beavercreek, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Patriot Ridge. Opal was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky in 1923 to the late Rev. Charlie and Daisy (Rose) Scott. In 1943, Opal married her devoted husband, Cecil, who preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include her son, Wayne Shipley; daughter, Sharon (Grady) Troute; three grandchildren, Gina, Nick and Andy; four great-grandchildren, Tori, Lily, Sophie and Spencer; step-grandchildren, Becca, Mike, Sierra, Cheyenne and Gray. Opal is also survived by six siblings, Buelah, Frieda, Parkie, James, Charlie and Tal and many special nieces and nephews. Even in the darkest hours of her Alzheimer's disease, Opal would still ask about "her family". She loved them deeply and unconditionally. Opal will always be remembered for her hard work, kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness. Opal was a retiree of Sears Downtown Dayton store where she sold jewelry and cosmetics. Until health prevented it, she was an active member of the Sears Retirees' Club. Opal was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church in Beavercreek. Her faith was strong and her praise for her heavenly Father never ceased. Scriptures and hymn lyrics remained in her fading memory and she looked forward to her heavenly home. Special thanks to her former Beavercreek neighbors and to her caregivers for their love and kindness. To the staff at Patriot Ridge, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for their loving and professional care. The C-Hall Staff was like "family". Thanks to VITAS Hospice for their compassionate support and tender care. Services entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. Calling hours will be on Monday, December 6, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with services following at 11:00 a.m. Final resting with her husband and mother at Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery, Beavercreek. Pastor Gary Favor, Faith Baptist Church and Rev. John Konz, Chaplain, Patriot Ridge, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Opal's memory to Patriot Ridge Alzheimer Unit, 789 Stoneybrook Trail, Fairborn, OH, 45324, VITAS Hospice, or to Cincinnati Children's Hospital at www.giving.cincinnatichildrens.org for the exceptional and successful brain tumor treatment received by Opal's great-grandson, Spencer Shipley.
