LONGVIEW, Wash. -- Thomas Albert Aaring, 78, a former Pullman farmer, died last Tuesday at his daughter's home here of causes related to age.

He was born Sept. 15, 1917, to Ethel and Thomas Aaring at Spokane. He grew up in Pullman and graduated from Pullman High School.

He served in World War II.

He married Dorothy Young in 1937. They later divorced.

He farmed west of Pullman until the early 1960s.

He then moved to Seattle to work at the Lockheed shipyards there as a certified welder.

He married Ruby Jensen in 1964. They later divorced.

He spent the next 20 years managing motels in California. He then retired and moved to Clarkston.

In February of this year, he moved to Longview to live with his daughter...

He was a member of the Elks and an avid Washington State University Cougars fan.

Surviving him are three daughters...; a stepdaughter...; three stepsons...; two sisters, Alice Senn of Kirkland and Ruth Hoffman of Clarkston; two brothers, John Aaring of Yakima and Jim Aaring of Mukilteo; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Aaring, and a sister, Virginia Ridder.
