Charles E. Godfrey died Monday morning a the family home in Dayton. He had been in failing health for several years and bedfast for the past six weeks. Mr. Godfrey was born Dec. 28, 1879, in Dayton and was the son of James and Charlotte Godfrey. His entire live was spent in the vicinity of Dayton. For many years he was engaged in the painting and decoration business but for the past nine years the had conducted a restaurant in the town. On Aug. 5, 1908 he married to Hanna Merkle who survives with one son, James and three daughters, Charlotte, Mary and Ida at home. One sister, Mrs. Ida McCullough of Dayton, also survives. He was a member of the Dayton M. E. Church, the Knights of Pythias and the Old Fellows lodge. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon for the M. E. church with the Rev. Israel Hatton officiation, burials in the Dayton cemetery.
