Funeral Mass for Bertie Lou Beliczky (nee Griffith), age 80, of Wickliffe, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 29840 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe.
Bertie Lou passed away March 18, 2010, at Cleveland Clinic.
Born Aug. 23, 1929, in Marshallville, she had been a Wickliffe resident for 50 years.
In addition to being a wife and mother of seven, Bertie Lou found time to actively volunteer in Wickliffe as an elementary school class aide, working with students with learning disabilities and particularly those challenged with visual perception. She was also active with the local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, band boosters and bingo programs (she was an excellent player in her own right), and was elected as the Lake County Volunteer of the Year. Bertie enjoyed reading, music, family genealogy (Welsh, Black Foot Indian and including veterans of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars), travel, holidays with family, fishing, pets and her many friends throughout the years. At barely 5 feet tall, Bertie Lou's stature was more like 6 feet 5 inches, and one could truly feel her presence coming and going. There was no mistaking that when Bertie Lou was in the room, you were in the company of a high- spirited, optimistic woman who was courageous and open to new adventures.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Louis S. Beliczky; children, Stephanie (Donald) Szabo of Mentor, L. Stephen (Paula) Beliczky of Richmond, Va., Mark (Cindy) Beliczky of Washington D.C., Claudia (James Connolly) Beliczky of Andover, Ann (Raymond) Petrick of Philadelphia, Roberta (Dennis) Thomas of Ponte Vedra, Fla. and Monica (Tom) Irwin of Lakewood; grandchildren, Allison, Braeden, Emily, Erin, Ian, John, Kyle, Laine, Leslie, Mairin, Meagan, Melissa, Nicholas, Nicole, Stephen and Will; one great-grandchild, Candence; a brother, Max Griffith of Marshallville; and a Sister, Karla (Ron) Hershberger of Wooster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Roberta (Williams) Griffith and a brother, Donovan Griffith.
