Ralph Dean Searle Graveside Services Held on Friday

Ralph Dean Searle, 77, formerly of Killeen, passed away on January 7, 2002 in The Woodlands, Texas. He was born in Tooele, Utah, on February 23, 1924.

Mr. Searle is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Virginia Allen Searle, and his brothers, Elmer Searle of Payson, Arizona; Gilbert Searle of Taylorsville, Utah; and Ronald Searle of Logan, Utah; daughter Debbie Whittington and son-in-law John of Victoria, Texas; son Dean Searle and daughter-in-law Ellen of Marshall, Texas and grandchildren Josh, Ronan, and Dillon Searle and Megan and Haley Whittington, niece and nephew and close friends June and E.G. Archer of Prairie Hill.

He was preceded in death by his father Asa and mother Eleanor Searle, brothers, Lynn and Stanley Searle and sister Jennie Proctor.

Mr. Searle served in the Air Force for 22 years, during which he often flew helicopters on rescue missions. He received medals for two such rescues, one on Mt. McKinley and the other in the South China Sea. During the same time period he received his Bachelor's Degree of General Education from the University of Omaha in 1961 and his Master's Degree from the American Technological University in 1975. After retiring as a USAF Major in 1963, he went on to develop the Career Pilot Program at Central Texas College in Killeen. This program allowed pilots to earn their licenses while receiving college credit. He was a member of the Killeen Masonic Lodge #1125, Scottish Rite of Waco, and the Karem Shrine Temple.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 11 at the Prairie Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites and full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital or a charity of choice.
