Don Box graduated from Grapevine High School in 1938. After hitchhiking his way between Grapevine and Denton, he graduated with a degree in business from North Texas State Normal College in Denton, Texas. Don then served stateside as a US Army Air Force pilot in World War II. On September 25, 1954, he married Alma Allen Swisher, a native of El Paso, Texas, in Dallas whereupon they were the parents of two sons and a daughter, including Glenn Eckley Box (1958-2005).
Don was the owner of National Building Supply, which manufactured windows, and was also a general contractor of homes in Dallas. He also taught a couples Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church of Dallas where he was a deacon. (Bio: E. E. Smith)
