Niles Woman Dies in Taxi

Mrs. Charlotte Elizabeth Bailey, 78, of 1401 S. 15th St., died Wednesday afternoon in a Niles taxi cab.

She suffered a heart attack while being taken home in the cab. Niles police, summoned to the scene, said she was dead when officers arrived.

John Brasfield, a driver for Four Flags Taxi Service, 211 N. 3rd St., told police he picked up Mrs. Bailey in the 400 block of S. 9th Street and, as they were enroute to her home, she said she was ill and slumped over in the back seat. Police, summoned about 3:30 p.m., contacted Dr. John Bruni, medical examiner, who pronoounced her dead.

She was born Oct. 10, 1884, in Niles. A graduate of Niles High School and Ypsilanti College, she taught in Kent City prior to her marriage on Aug. 8, 1914, to Andrew P. Bailey. He died in November, 1941.

Surviving are three sons, G.P. Bailey, Eau Claire; Max Bailey, Carson City; and Dr. Worth A. Bailey, Buffalo, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements, being handled by the Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire, are incomplete. Friends may call after 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Note the following error in the above above article: "... prior to her marriage on Aug. 8, 1914, to Andrew 'P.' Bailey." should read "... prior to her marriage on Aug. 20, 1914, to Andrew 'N.' Bailey." (date of marriage corrected from '8' to '20' and from 'P' to 'N.' for Andrew 'Nelson' Bailey per their marriage license and certificate and other documents. Andrew Nelson Bailey is my grandfather. - Ginger (Contributor #47352012);

And then in the article below: These same errors appear again in another newspaper, which also incorrectly stated that she died in 'her home' instead of in 'a taxi'. Her day of birth was also reported incorrectly. Here is the other article, but with my corrections as just noted.
