MRS. ROSE MARY MARTIN

Rose Mary Martin, of Dixon, was born on February 16, 1929, in Maries County, a daughter of George Clarence "Pete" and Oma Lee (Roberson) Hawkins, and departed this life at 4:40 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2010, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dixon. Mrs. Martin had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 81 years, 8 months and 27 days.

Mrs. Martin was united in marriage on March 1, 1947, at Dixon to Herschel Lee Martin, and to this union, five children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 17, 2008; her father on August 30, 1981; her mother on September 30, 1985; and one sister, Lorraine Doyel, on October 22, 2010.

Mrs. Martin was a member of the First Church of God, Dixon, and had been employed by Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, for sixteen years as well as being a homemaker and raising five children. She always enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Martin include: two sons, Douglas Martin and Dwayne Martin, both of Dixon; three daughters, Elaine Fritchey and Marsha Harsch, both of Dixon, and Carol Thurman, Eugene; one brother, Leo Hawkins, Maryland Heights; one sister, Diane Murphy, Dixon; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Martin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Pastor Brian Beckwith, First Church of God, Dixon and Pastor Helen Winters, Seaton Faith Fellowship Church, Dixon, officiating. "Where The Roses Never Fade", "When I Get To Where I'm Going" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" were played for the service.

Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Martin were Josh Duncan, Aaron Wiles, Jason Sinden, Kenny Sherrell, Keith Loethen and Dick Thurman. Honorary pallbearers were Rachelle York, Tracie Krantz, Regina Duncan, Teresa Loethen and Sherri Swartze.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the First Church of God, Dixon, with envelopes available at the Dixon Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes
