Charles Iver Burney and his brother William J. Burney, and uncle, Daniel H. Burney, were in the 3rd Company B, 36th Regiment NCT, 2nd Regiment NC Artillery during the Civil War. It was known as the "Bladen Stars"
Charles enlisted in Bladen County at age 19, 28 Dec 1861 for 12 months. Mustered in as a Private and appointed Corporal 1 May 1862. Reduced to ranks Oct 1862 -June 1863. Present or accounted for thru August 1864. Wouned and captured at Fort Fisher NC, 15 Jan 1865 and sent to a POW camp in Elmira, NY.
