Axel came with his parents from Sweden to Iowa in 1881. He first belonged to the Freemission church. He was received by baptism into the Arthur Baptist Church on Sep 29, 1891 and served for many years in several offices. In 1893 he bought 82 acres adjacent to his father's farm in the NE corner of Section 1 of Hayes Township. He married Hulda Turin Dec 23, 1896, at the Swedish Baptist Church. In 1905 he sold his first farm to his father and moved his family to Hayes Center, section 21, where he bought 160 acres and later added 80 more. Axel and Hulda had 5 children, 4 sons born on their first farm and a daughter, Edith, born in their home a half mile west of Hayes No. 5 school, where all of the children attended. In 1909 Axel began a new barn and home site closer to the school, completed in 1914. Beginning in the middle 1920s, debts, a divorce, the Great Depression, droughts in the 1930s, all brought on the loss of his farm to a loan company. In 1937 he had a farm sale (Myron then moved there and rented), married Lena Carlberg, and retired to Storm Lake where he died in 1942.
