Funeral services for Ada Purkhiser of Shoals were held at the chapel of the Brosmer-Drabing Funeral Home in French Lick on Tuesday. She died July 19 at the Orange County Hospital. She was born Jun 13, 1904 in Orange County to Edward and Amanda America Hopper Moore and married Harry E. Purkhiser, Sr. He preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Purkhiser was a homemaker in Martin County and a member of the Powell Valley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred Chestnut of West Baden: two sons, Harry Purkhiser, Jr. of West Baden and James Harold of Orleans: four sisters, Louisa Lynch and Betty Tomlinson both of French Lick, Mary Schulmeyer of Indianapolis and Ruth Allbright of Shoals; 15 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: husband; two stillborn daughters: and two sons, Virgil and Charles Purkhiser. Burial was in Anderson Cemetery. Submitted by Phyllis Bennett.
