L. Plummer Lewis was born in 1852 in Stewart County, TN. His mother was Mary 'Ross' Lewis (1825-after 1880) who was first married to John Davidson Lewis (1812-1846) on 5 August 1844. She married William G. Morris (1811-1881) on 12 September 1860 after the census was taken. She and John Davidson Lewis had one daughter, Martha, born in 1845. She and William G. Morris had two daughters, Susan born in 1863 and Missouri born in 1864.
Mary's parents were Rev. Samuel C. Ross and Elizabeth (Betsy) 'Wallace' Ross.
