Charles C. BOARDMAN, 88, of 1729 Wabash Ave., Rochester, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday at Parkwood Health Care Center, Lebanon, after suffering from an infection.
Born in Higdon, Ark., he was the son of Charlie and Lena Merker Boardman.
On Dec. 16, 1945, in Remington, he married Eileen D. Carlile.
During World War II, he served on the Navy carrier USS Kersarge in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. He was an aviation ordnance maintenance 2nd class for six years.
He moved from Urbana to the Rochester area in 1959.
After retiring from dairy farming, he worked at Rochester Middle School in the custodial department for 12 years.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 47 and the Rochester Swinging Dudes, all of Rochester. He was also a member of the Pure Bred Breeders Association of Fulton County and served as its treasurer for five years.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen D. Boardman, at home; four daughters, Diane K. Boardman, Lebanon, Janet S. Gouldsmith and husband Donald, Clayton, Carol J. Mann and husband James, Martinsville, and Karen A. Marosz, Holland, Mich.; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, three sisters and three brothers.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Good Family Funeral home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Maurice Grindle. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, Rochester, where LeRoy Shelton American Legion No. 36 and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1343 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 47 will conduct a 7:30 p.m. service Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
