George T. Harris, born Virginia 1842 He was a house carpenter from Virginia who joined Company I, 1st Tennessee, but later transferred to Company M and served as 2nd Lieutenant. Companies L and M were added to the 1st Tennessee after the regiment transferred to cavalry service. The 1st drew horses and received cavalry training at Camp Dennison and Camp Moore, Ohio, in 1862.

He married Laura M. Gillespie, the daughter of George F. and Ann Elizabeth Tyler Gillespie.
