Lieutenant Wallace F. McCoy, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McCoy of Dallas City, was one of the two pilots killed late Thursday when their planes collided in the air, crashed and burned at the Westerly air base at Westerly, R. I. Lieutenant McCoy's wife, Mrs. Cora Lee McCoy, had been living at the base while her husband trained as a navy night fighter pilot at the Westerly field. They had planned to leave right after the flight to visit his parents. McCoy and Ensign William Rehberg of Decatur, Ala., were on routine training flights when the crash occurred. Born in Ceres, Pa., McCoy had lived at Dallas City for the past 20 years. He attended the local schools and graduated from the Bradford High school with the class of 1939. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by one brother, Francis McCoy of the United States Navy stationed in the Pacific area; three sisters, Mrs. Winifred Cotton and Mrs. Harriet Yonker of Dallas City and Mrs. Doris Matthews of Elmonte, Cal. Full military services were held Monday under the auspices of the Bradford Post No. 108, American Legion.
