Mr. Beck died unexpectedly Thursday, March 28, 2002, at his home.
Jack Gilbert Beck was born Nov. 24, 1935, in Davenport, the son of Gilbert and Catherine (Kopp) Beck. He married Karen Humphreys on June 6, 1964, at Sacred Heart Church in Moline. She preceded him in death Dec. 13, 1998.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church. Jack taught surveying classes at Scott Community College and was the former owner of the Book Nook in Davenport. He also was an engineer for the Estes Co., Davenport, until he retired in June 2001.
Jack loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, woodworking and reading science fiction. Memorials may be made to the college fund established for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter and sons, Jodi Beck, Davenport, Erik Beck, West Des Moines, Kris Beck, Iowa City, and Kery Beck, Davenport; and grandchildren, Heather and Alexandrea Beck. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lisa Beck. May they rest in peace.
