Helen Marie, daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Neppl) Ludwig, was born October 2, 1914, at Breda, Iowa. Her early years were spent at the family farm east of Breda, helping take care of her younger siblings, since her mother passed when she was five years old. Helen worked at several stores in Carroll during her young adult years.

Helen met Lawrence Heithoff at a dance in Carroll. On February 4, 1948, they were united in marriage at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Carroll. Helen and Lawrence were the parents of four children. They farmed near Templeton and in 1958 they moved to the present farm in Audubon County, Viola Township, south of Dedham.

Helen was a homemaker, taking care of her children and helping with her grandchildren. She raised chickens, had a large garden, canned garden produce and was especially proud of her fruit trees and homemade apple pies. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, baking, and raising African violets. Helen enjoyed entering her homemade items at the county fairs. Helen was an active 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed being involved as a member of St. Joseph's Parish and Ladies Guild in Dedham. She was also a member of the Viola Homemakers Club for over 50 years.

Lawrence passed away in 1974 and Helen remained on the farm until 2010 at the age of 96. She resided in an apartment in Coon Rapids for 3 years and was a recent resident of Parkview Assisted Living and the Thomas Rest Haven, where she passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013, at the age of ninety-nine.
