She was born on May 5, 1902 in Grayson County, Kentucky. They were the parents of nine children. His obituary follows:

JUNE 19 AT HOSPITAL (1968)
John R. Cockriel, 78, a retired farmer of Millwood, died at the local hospital on Wednesday, June 19 (1968). Born in Grayson County on June 17, 1890, he was the son of Vol and Polly Allen Cockriel. / Surviving are his wife, Minta Kiper Cockriel; five sons, John Riley, Ezra Thomas, James, John Henry and Cecil Cockriel; four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Sherrad (sic - Sherrod), Mrs. Nelly Stinnett, Mrs. Lela Wright and Mrs. Willa Marie Sials (sic - Silas); 33 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. / Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ellis Chapel by Brother Carlie Ward. Interment was in Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Tom S. Ellis.
