Sadie Wolfswinkel, 93, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.


Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Carmel Reformed Church in Carmel, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Friday in Carmel Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa.


Sadie (Te Slaa) Wolfswinkel was born Jan. 28, 1912, to John and Hattie (De Vries) Te Slaa, in Hull, Iowa. She spent most of her formative years in the Hull area and attended the Hull school through the eighth grade.


She was joined in marriage to Joe Wolfswinkel on June 30, 1935, in Hull. The young couple moved to a farm in the Carmel, Iowa, area, where they farmed for 40 years. They then retired from farming and moved into Rock Valley. Joe died on Dec. 27, 1998. After his passing, she lived in the Four Seasons Retirement Apartments in Rock Valley. In the last six months of her life, she lived at the Valley Manor Nursing Facility in Rock Valley.


She was a member of Carmel Reformed Church and was active in the Carmel Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing, growing flowers and vegetables in her garden and will long be known for her great cookie and pie making skills. She deeply loved her family and her church, but above all she loved her Lord.


Along with her husband of 63 years, she was also preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Gerrit and Etta Te Slaa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ben and Jennie Schoep, Ralph and Hattie Vande Berg, Henry Zoet, Ray De Bey and Art Rozeboom; and a brother in infancy, Gerben Te Slaa.
