Age 36 Years
While working at the Iowa Mill, Peter, through no fault of his own, met with a very serious accident which resulted in his death about four hours later. The elevator which he was riding, when nearing the top of the shaft, for some reason fell eighty feet to the bottom, crushing and bruising him so severely that he died from loss of blood before it was possible to get medical aid to him. One newspaper stated the elevator fell on top of him. Survivors were his wife and four little children in Finland or Sweden, and a cousin (not named) in Silverton. Peter's funeral was held under the auspices of the Miners Union, Rev. R.E. Carter officiating. He was buried at Hillside..."
