Deceased Name: Annie Haigler

Haigler Annie McDonald Haigler, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 31, 2009. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her children in her home in Rockingham, North Carolina.
Born in Richmond County on Sept. 6, 1911 to John L. and Ida Marks McDonald, her life spanned nearly a century and had a profound effect on those who knew her. Mrs. Haigler was the only girl in a family of seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hartis Haigler, and brothers Roy Lee, William Ernest, Henry Daniel, Ellis Marks, John Franklin and Edgar Benford.
Annie Haigler graduated from high school in Rockingham and attended both Wingate College and Appalachian State Teachers College. She married John Hartis Haigler from Union County on Dec. 26, 1935. They made their lifelong home in Rockingham where Mr. Haigler retired from his first career as a school principal. Her work outside the home included more than 20 years as an employee with J. C. Penney Company and she also managed the family's motel business when Mr. Haigler was traveling in a second fulltime career with Hygrade Seed Company. As a lifetime member and Sunday School teacher at McDonald Baptist Church, she influenced and helped mold the lives of many.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter:John Doyle Haigler and wife Shirley, Carroll Fulton Haigler and wife Diana, Samuel Hartis Haigler and wife Deborah from Rockingham and a daughter, Ida Joanne and husband J. W. Isenhour Jr. from Raleigh. Also left with loving memories of Mrs. Haigler are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Included are Doyle's three children:daughters Laurie Darlene McDuffie, husband Carl McDuffie and her children Thomas Christopher Helms and Sarah Rebecca Helms of Rockingham, Sharon Rose Wallace, husband Jackie Wallace and son Jerry Matthew Haigler of Rockingham and a son John Charles Haigler of Charlotte. Joanne's children are sons Joseph Kevin Isenhour, wife Robin and son Joseph Benjamin of Gastonia and David Anthony Isenhour and wife Sarah Lynn of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. All of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are blessed with many pleasant memories of "Nannie Haigler." A service to "Celebrate the Life" of Mrs. Haigler will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. at McDonald Baptist Church which is located at 259 McDonald Church Road, Rockingham, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 2 p.m. with the church service beginning at 3 p.m. followed by a burial service in the church's cemetery.
In memory of Annie M. Haigler, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US 1 Highway 1, Rockingham, NC 28379 or McDonald Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the professional staff of the Richmond County Hospice and especially to her nurse Mrs. Frankie Long, caregivers Myrtle Paul and Teresa Graham and to her much beloved nieces, nephews and special friends who treated her with so much love and dignity.
