Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 at Davis Chapel for Bert Ray Foster, 85, of Coweta. Interment was in Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. Foster died Friday, Nov. 30 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Foster was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Coweta to Alfred Bee and Johanna Foster. He graduated from Coweta High School in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, joining the 1408th Army Air Force unit in September of 1942. He served overseas for a year and a half providing logistical support at Army Air Force base units in England and France. He achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant before being honorably discharged in March of 1946. Foster returned to Coweta after the war and married Estelle Cooper in November of 1948. Over the years he worked for Douglas Aircraft and Braniff Airlines in Tulsa. He was an operations agent for Braniff until he retired in 1982. Foster was a 32nd degree Freemason and was recently honored as a 50-year member of the Masons. Hew as a member of Coweta Lodge No. 251. During his retirement years he enjoyed working around the home and visiting with friends at the Koweta Indian Center. He enjoyed visits from grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends, and enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales, often buying, fixing and reselling items. Foster very much enjoyed taking care of his animals. You would often see him with a dog riding along in his truck or cart. He is survived by his wife, Estelle, of the home; two sons, Michael Foster and his wife, Pamela and George Foster and his wife, Kerri, both of Broken Arrow; four grandchildren, Shon Foster, Adam Foster, Kevin Foster and Cody Foster; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary, Samantha, Jeffrey, Abby, Braden, Jason and Emily and several nieces and nephews. Foster was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Foster and Clyde Foster and two sisters, Leona Sarty and Rubye Johnson.
