Jonas Rude Redick was born April 5, 1886, in Denison, Grayson County, Texas to parents, John Harris "J.H." Redick, who passed away in 1893, and Mary Mason Vestal, who passed away in 1923. Jonas was named for his father's brother, Jonas Rude Redick, who passed away in 1873.

Jonas Rude Redick's siblings are: James Porter Redick; Lucy Prudence Redick Ford; Cleon "Little Cleon", who passed away in 1891; James Madison "Matt" Redick; Millard Fillmore Redick; and Nellora Grace Redick Glover.

John Redick is the grandson of Cleon Oliver Redick (Reddick), born in 1815 and of Pennsylvania; and Lucy Harris, born in 1815 and of New York; and of James Madison Vestal, born in 1829, and Martha Jane English, born in 1835, and both of Tennessee.

Jonas and his family operated a farm, who first rented, then, purchased the land that encompasses from Texoma Parkway and Highway 82, in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, to Texoma Parkway/Armstrong Avenue and Iron Ore Creek in Denison. The family grew fruits, vegetables, and cotton and were productive and successful farmers.

By 1910, Jonas worked as an electrical railway operator in Grayson County.

He married Ida Irene Shelton, June 28, 1911, in Denison. Their son, Harold James Redick, was born in 1913 in Sherman. Their son, Carl Matthews Redick, was born in 1915 in Sherman.

Jonas registered in 1918 for the U.S. military draft of World War I. By 1920, Jonas purchased a home in Sherman and worked for the Saint Louis, San Francisco, and Texas Railroad as a machinist helper.

By 1930, Jonas worked as a merchant and owned and operated a grocery store in Sherman.

Jonas Rude Redick passed away, January 3, 1938, in Sherman, from accidental burns received when he tripped and fell onto a pile of burning trash that he had already set ablaze. Jonas is buried at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman.

Jonas died a tragic death, yet lived a life filled with blessings and joys. He has many Redick, Vestal, and Shelton extended family members in Texas and throughout the U.S., who love and remember him.

His widow, Ida, passed away in 1973, and is burned alongside Jonas and their son, Carl, at Friendship Cemetery. Jonas's and Ida's son, Harold James Redick, is buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Jefferson County, Texas.

Notes to those who may research the Redick family, which is filled with many repeating names and with many males who used the same initials:

Jonas's brother, "Little" Cleon Redick; Jonas's father, John Harris "J.H." Redick, who passed away in 1893; and Jonas's uncle, Jonas Rude Redick, who passed away in 1873, are buried alongside Jonas's Redick grandparents at Shannon Cemetery, Dripping Springs Road, Sherman.

Jonas's and all of his siblings' mother, Mary Mason Vestal Redick, passed away in 1923 and is buried alongside her Vestal parents and siblings in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman.

Jonas's brothers, James Madison "Matt" Redick and Millard Fillmore Redick, are buried beside Jonas's and all of Jonas's siblings' uncle, James Harris "J.H." Redick, who passed away in 1928, in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. The "J.H." Redick, who passed away in 1928, and who is buried beside two of Jonas's brothers in West Hill Cemetery is not Jonas's and all of his siblings' father; however, is their uncle, James Harris "J.H." Redick.

The "Mamie Dodd" who is buried beside Jonas's brothers, Matt and Millard, and beside Jonas's and all of Jonas's siblings' uncle, James Harris "J.H." Redick, in West Hill Cemetery, is not Jonas's and all of his siblings' mother, Mary Mason Vestal Redick.

Jonas's and all of his siblings' first cousin, James Harvey, "J.H." Redick, who passed away in 1917 and who is buried at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro, Grayson County, Texas, is the son of Jonas's and all of his siblings' uncle, James Harris "J.H." Redick, who passed away in 1923 and who is buried at West Hill Cemetery.
