Ernest L. Butze was born Dec. 12th, 1841 in Seiferdorf, Kingdom of Saxony, Germany; died in Golconda, Tuesday, April 26, 1910, at 9 o'clock, p. m.

Mr. Butze came to Golconda from his home in Germany in 1866.

On July 7th, 1868, he married Miss Julia Blatter, who survives him, and with their seven children, namely Mrs. George Blatter of Golden, Colo., Mrs. Henry Smith and Mrs Frank Burrows, of Paducah, Ky., Mrs. Theo Searcy and Mrs. Ado Ramsey, of Golconda, Julius and Henry Butze of Paducah, and Indianapolis, respectively.

Mr. Butze had been sick for several weeks, and the end had been anticipated for sometime. [From undated clipping found in family scrapbook; probably from the Golconda Herald Enterprise]

He was the son of Gotthelf Friedrich Butze (1815-1871) and Johanna Christiane Vogel Butze (born 1816-?) His parents married 20 Oct. 1839. He arrived in New York on 29 May 1866, having sailed from Bremen on the ship Orpheus; his occupation was Miner and his destination was Illinois.

A daughter, Fanny May, was born 7 May 1880 and died before 1900.
