He graduated from Lassen High School in 1925 and later attended Lassen Junior College and the University of California at Berkeley. During the 1930's he engaged in ranching in the Milford, Lassen County, area. From 1928 to 1940 he operated the commissary at Camp 10.
He was ordained as a minister by the Assemblies of God in 1948 at La Grande, Oregon and pastored churches in Burney, California and Gold Hill, Oregon. He and his wife built the church in Gold Hill, using some of her inheritance money.
He married Vivian M Hoffman on June 22, 1930, in Buntingville (Lassen County, California).
They were parents of two sons:
