Born in Portland, Oregon, on March 5, 1911, he was the son of Addison and Bertha Furnas Paxson. He married Margaret Quam on January 2, 1932, in Marshalltown, and she preceded him in death in May, 1979.
Four children survive, Betty (Mrs. Ron) Shutt, Judith (Mrs. Alvin) Stewart, and Dennis Paxson, all of Marshalltown, and Richard Paxson of Waterloo. There are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brother, Orville Paxson of San Francisco, California also survives.

Reared and educated in the Marshalltown area, he had been a truck driver with Bos Freight Lines for many years. He was also a special deputy at the Marshall County Courthouse until his retirement.
Mr. Paxson was a former president of Local 293 of the Teamsters Union, had been active in local boxing contests and served as an umpire for the Marshalltown Little League and an umpire for the Anson Pro Baseball League. His memberships included Central Christian Church, Legion of Guardsmen, former member of the Moose Lodge, and the Iowa National Guard Company H in Marshalltown.
