Born in Kansas in 1872. His parents were James C. Hodgson and Sophia Wiggins Hodgson. He lived in Kansas and Colorado. He lived in Leadville Colorado and he was rumored to be a sidekick to Soapy Smith. He traveld to Alaska and Canada during the 1898 Gold Rush maybe with Soapy Smith. He married his first wife Jennie Downing Hodgson in December 1899. She was born in 1883 and died in 1905 and is buried in Marble, Colorado. They had two children William and Frank Hodgson. William said in a phone interview that his mother Jennie died during child birth and a baby was buried with her.

S. C. Hodgson of Crested Butte died here Monday night, as the result of injuries received in a mine accident at Crested Butte, April 24. Mr. Hodgson was brought to a local hospital Monday night, but died shortly after arrival here. He was 53 years old. The body was taken to the Travers & Boham Undertaking parlors and was sent from there to Crested Butte Wednesday night for burial. His son Frank Hodgson accompanied him to Salida, returning with the body,
