Bessie Townsend Burkett, 67, a native of Madison, Fla., former resident of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Baldwin County, and a resident of Cherry Lake, Fla., since 2002, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 in Valdosta, Ga.
She was an interior designer and part owner of Wall Covering Unlimited in Pensacola, Fla. She was a homemaker and a Girl Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader and one of the best softball and Tee Ball coaches. She was active in the March of Dimes and an active school mother during the years she raised her children, also active in horse clubs, and was a passionate fisherman. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lucious and Robbie Mildred Townsend; sister, Robbie Lee White; and brother, Carl Townsend.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Burkett of Cherry Lake; son, Jamie Burkett of Cherry Lake; daughter, Sonia Burkett (Douglas) Arnett of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; brother: Larry (Barbara) Townsend of Cherry Lake; sister, Cecelia Jean (Jackie Ray) Hightower of Wacissa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Morgan Arnett, Taylor Arnett, Sean Burkett, Kristine Burkett; many nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; and special friends.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at Beggs Funeral Home, Madison, Fla. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at Concord Cemetery in Greenville, Fla.
