Ruth Baxter passed away in Jacksonville, FL on May 18, 2010. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She was born on October 23, 1917 to the late William and Dorcas King and was predeceased by her husband, Dwight H. Baxter of Mountaindale, NY.

She is survived by her sons: Bill, Tim, Terry, Michael, and Kevin and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of Mountaindale. She had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as Post Master of the Mountaindale Post Office in 1981. She was also an agent for the Callicoon Cooperative Insurance Company for 50 years, continuing to work well into her 80's. She was very active in her community, was a charter member of the Mountaindale First Aid Squad and a Commissioner of the Mountaindale Fire Company. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Woodridge Methodist Church. She was also an avid baseball fan. As a result of her support for the creation of the Catskill Cougars, Mountaindale's minor league team, the baseball stadium was named in her honor, Baxter Stadium.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mountaindale First Aid Squad or Mountaindale Fire Department.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, on Saturday, May 22, from 12 to 2 p.m. Firematic services will follow visitation along with funeral services which will be held at the funeral home. The Reverend Robert Pinto will officiate.
