Jacksonville FL Times-Union on Wed 5 Sept 1923: Rev I. A. Wetherington Found Dead In Bed. Valdosta, Ga., Sept 5.- Passing away as peaceful as he had lived, Rev I. A. Wetherington, 73, was found dead in his bed at Howell Station, south of Valdosta yesterday morning. He was born and reared in Lowndes County and was widely connected and known throughout South Georgia and North Florida, having for more than a half century served numerous Primitive Baptist churches through this section as pastor. On Sunday he attended the annual meeting of Cow Creek church in Echols County, on the Georgia and Florida line, and preached at the morning hour, returning home in the afternoon. While he had been in failing health for more than a year he was not regarded as being any worse in the last few days than usual hence his death was a great shock both to his family and friends. He was an upstanding man, always interested in the public affairs of this section and his noble character and kindly disposition and constant ministrations to the people gave him a strong and widespread influence. Mr. Wetherington owned and operated the farm in Lowndes County on which he was born and reared, although for more than a year he has resided at Howell Station, where he bought a home in order to be relieved of the cares of conducting his farming operations. Besides his widow, he is survived by six children who include Bird Wetherington of Dade City Florida; Carl Wetherington of Mulberry Fla., Mrs. John A. Coward (Cowart) of Mayday; John Wetherington and Groover Wetherington of Howell and Mrs. John M. Turner of Valdosta.
