Mary Luma (Brummett) Dowell, 87, passed away at the Bartholomew County Hospital on Jan. 23, 1965, after an illness of one year. Born in Brown County Aug. 31, 1877, she was the daughter of [James Knox] Polk and Sarah (Percifield) Brummett. She was united in marriage to William [Sherman] Dowell in 1889 in Brown County. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1950.

Mrs. Dowell lived in Brown County until 1926 when she moved to Tippecanoe County, and then back to Helmsburg. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church

Surviving are five sons, Roy Dowell of Rt. 8 Lafayette, Millard Dowell of Otterbein, Henry Dowell of Rt. 2 Morgantown, Delmas Dowell of West Point, and Wilson Dowell of Rt. 5 Lafayette; four daughters, Bertha Eaton of Valparaiso, Iva Kelp of Rt. 3 Nashville, IN, Bessie Riley of Valparaiso, and Alice Roberts of Rt. 4 Nashville; two sisters, Mrs. Nerva Davis of Bloomington and Mrs. Clara Fleener of Franklin; 58 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10 AM, and then in Montmorenci, IN, at 2:30 PM. Burial was in the Montmorenci Cemetery. Rev. Clarence Harden conducted the rites.
