Louis Joseph Veraghen Sr. was born on 18 Jan 1873, to Jean Baptiste and Emily (Veckman) Veraghen, in New Franken, Brown, Wisconsin. He was raised by his Belgium immigrant parents in nearby Humboldt Township, Wisconsin.

In about 1892 he married Selina Cecelia Delvaux, probably in Humboldt Township. The couple lived in Humboldt and Green Bay, Wisconsin, prior to moving their family to Nadeau Township, Menominee, Michigan, in 1905.

Louis purchased what is known as the Regan farm in Nadeau Township, where he and his family lived, until losing the property during the Great Depression. In 1941, the Piche family (Daughter Hazel's husband and in-laws), and others, built him and his wife a new home at N13800 Old Highway 41, in Nadeau. As his grandson, Bob Piche, recalled, the basement was dug with the help of horses, and the stone foundation was laid by hand.

Education: Third grade.

Occupation: Butcher and farmer.

Louis, age 70, died of cirrhosis of the liver, on 20 Jul 1943, in Nadeau, Michigan. He was buried on 22 Jul 1943, in the Veraghen family plot, in Nadeau Township Cemetery, where he is surrounded by his wife and several of his children.
