Mary Cornelia Treadway Stanford Shatto was the daughter of Homer Wilson Treadway and Georgia Ruth Overstreet. She was reared in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Reagan Senior High School in 1933. She was the second person to be awarded the Delphian Scholarship which enabled her to attend the Houston Junior College (now the University of Houston). She was an accomplished young woman. She sang and toured with a group known as the Melody Lassies in the 1930's. At one time, she was a soloist at First Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. She was the first female stockbroker from Houston on the New York Stock Exchange. She was an owner of a fishing camp in Port Isabel, Texas. Later, she was the office manager of the SHW Group, Architects.

She married William McIntyre Stanford in April of 1939. She was widowed in July of 1944 when her husband died on the beaches of Normandy, France. She reared her two sons before marrying Alfred Preston Shatto in 1961.

After the death of Alf Shatto in 1988, she moved to Country Place in Pearland, Texas where she enjoyed many years with friends while participating in many activities.
While there, she sang in the choir of the First United Methodist Church of Pearland and acted in numerous plays put on by the Country Place players.
