Funeral services for Edith R. Bru, 92, Marshalltown, were held Friday Nov. 16, at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home with burial in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown. Born July 27, 1908, in Montour, she was the daughter of DeWitt and Julia Harris Crofutt. She was raised and received her early education in Montour and Marshalltown, graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1929.
On July 22, 1929, in Des Moines, she was united in marriage to Albert Bru. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, LeGrand, on the family farm near Montour (which was one of the first Century Farms in the State of Iowa being in the same family since 1854) and near Gladbrook. In 1995, she moved to Marshalltown and had resided at the Embers 1211 W. State Street.
Bru was a member of the First Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 67, a charter member of the Marshalltown Weavers Guild and also a past president. She was also a charter member and past president of the Iowa Federation of Weavers and Spinners and a member of the Midwest Weavers Guild.
She died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at the Grandview Heights Care Center, Marshalltown.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Albert in 1988; one sister and a half-brother.
She is survived by a son, Charles Bru, rural Gladbrook; a daughter, Alice Wrage, Center Point; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
