Ernest Aasen, 86, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MNinnesota, died there on Friday, May 30, 2008, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Ernest Aasen was born on August 9, 1921, in Velva, North Dakota, to Anton and Anna Aasen. He grew up and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army, 947th Air Engineers, the army's first special service force, during WWII, serving in Italy, Africa, Germany and the Aleutian Islands. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

Following his service, he returned to Minot, North Dakota and then attended watchmaking and gemology school in Missouri. He moved to Fargo, North Dakota and went to work for Royal Jewelers for several years. Ernest married Effie Thue and they made their home in Moorhead, Minnesota with their daughter Sandy. They had been married for 57 years. Ernest worked for Jewelmont Corporation of Minneapolis, as a wholesale jewelry salesman, traveling the upper Midwest and Alaska. After he retired, he did clock repair.

His favorite years were the years spent at his cabin on Big Cormorant Lake. He loved boating, fishing and working in his garden and yard. He had a big heart for dogs. He will be dearly missed as a father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Malon, Marvin and Gordon.
