CARBONDALE - Chester Francis Johnson, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, just one day shy of his 91st birthday.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1915, in Cairo, the son of Chester Sydney [Sidney] and Mary (Underhill) Johnson.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a master mechanic for aircraft.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Carbondale.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Francis Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Chester Frederick Johnson of Coeur d'Lane, Idaho; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Johnson of Murphysboro, Jerry L. Johnson of Littleton, Colo., and Gary D. Johnson of Baton Rouge, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, James F., Charles E., Richard, Billy Lee and Jack B. Johnson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Oakland Cemetery, with the Rev. Katherine Graves officiating. Burial will follow. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service. Huffman-Harker Funeral Home in Carbondale is in charge of the arrangements.
