Mary Helen Wilson, age 84 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, September 7, 2002 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born December 26, 1917 to Franklin Marmaduke and Gertie May Frazee Daniel in Bates County, Missouri.
Mary, the youngest of five children, was raised near Butler and attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse called the "Star School" just southeast of Butler. On June 24, 1939 she was united into marriage to John Orval Wilson in Rich Hill, Missouri. Mary worked at a local poultry house in Butler, the Raleigh Welch grocery store, the Garment factory in Rich Hill during the 1940's, as well as the Inn Cafe. She also worked as a salesclerk for Mattingly's Store for 26 years and at the Matco Store until her retirement in 1980. She was a memeber of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Lader Day Saints and also attended the Church of Christ.
Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting and made lots of pillows, pot holders, and clothes. Gardening was another of Mary's hobbies and she loved to give some of her fresh vegetables away to family and friends.
Mary is survived by one sister, Pansy Stoner of Nevada, Missouri; several nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nephews, great-nieces, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years John Wilson on March 29, 1987; two brothers, Roy Daniel and Walter Daniel; and one sister Susa Burnett.
