-- Mr. Monroe P. Peake of Rock Hill died Saturday at Piedmont Medical Center. Mr. Peake was 83.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Greene's Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. Private family burial will take place after the service.

The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight, April 24, 2006.

A native of Elgin, S.C., Mr. Peake was the son of the late Walter Peake and Gertrude Easler Peake. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and worked as an engineer mechanic on B-17 and B-29's. He was retired from Bowater Carolina Inc., formerly a deacon and charter member of Woodhaven Baptist Church and now a member of Catawba Baptist Church. Mr. Peake was also a member of the Masons, York Lodge 385. He attended Georgia Tech and University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Marjorie C. Peake; his son, Jerry F. Peake; three daughters, Judy P. Hargrove of Universal City, Texas, Barbara P. Crosby of Rock Hill, Gail P. Baker of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lilian Aiken of Great Falls, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill, or Fruit that Remains program of Catawba Baptist Church. Other favorite charities of Mr. Peake American Cancer Society and Salvation Army.
