Vera Mae Cowart Pinson

BELLVILLE -- Vera Mae Cowart Pinson was born Oct. 4, 1934 in Dallas to Edgar T. and Clara Mae Fry Cowart. She grew up and attended school in Rusk. After graduating from Rusk High School, she attended Lon Morris College. She then earned her Master's degree in Library Science at Sam Houston State University.

She made her home in many different places including Bay City and LaMarque. She taught at Katy High School and in Bellville at Bellville High School and Faith Academy.

On July 7, 1995, she was united in marriage with Byron Pinson at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville. They made their home in Bellville where Vera served on the Altar Society at Sts. Peter and Paul and was a member of the Austin County Republican Party. She was also a member of the Texas State Teachers Association.

She passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004 in Temple at the age of 69. She is survived by her husband, Byron Pinson of Bellville; daughters, Cecilia Cowart Schlicher and her husband, Craig, of Huntsville and Cheri Anne Cowart and her husband Scott Rolfe, of Austin; step-son Randy Pinson and his wife, Helena, of Waco; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Pinson of Waco; brother Dr. James E. Cowart and his wife, Helen, of Bay City; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and animal friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lt. Col. Lewis Jackson Cowart, Robert William Cowart and Walter Harold Cowart; and sister, Minnie Lee Cowart.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 15 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville with Father Timothy Bucek as the Celebrant. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 16, in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Rusk. Honorary Pallbearers were Craig Schlicher, Randy Pinson, R. Walter Cowart and J. Timothy Cowart.

In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to P.U.P.S., Prevent Unwanted Pets, 1884 Bostic Road, Cat Spring, TX 78933 or to Country Paws Rescue Shelter and Sanctuary, 22271 Kmeic Road, Hempstead, TX 77445.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
