A native and lifelong resident of Jasper he graduated from Jasper High School in 1951. He retired from International Paper & Louisiana Pacific Corp. He was a member of DeWitt Clinton Masonic Lodge #29 AF&AM and was a U. S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Callie Lou Chapman; two sons, John Mark Caldwell and James "Kevin" Caldwell; one daughter, Sandra Lou Harper; sister, Kathleen Lively and five grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl Caldwell & Lila Mae McQueen Caldwell, brother, James Caldwell and sister, Irma Chapman and a daughter Angelia Kay Caldwell
