Joel Heath Lovelien was born October 8, 1969 in Bismarck, ND, the son of Marvin and Judy (Bergland) Lovelien. Joel was raised and educated in Grand Forks and Bagley, MN, graduating from Bagley High School in 1988. Joel graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degrees in math and computer science. He worked in Information Services at the Grand Forks Clinic and later as a Technical Systems Analyst for Altru Health System.
Joel married Heidi Hosley on March 20, 1992 in Grand Forks.
Joel loved life. He especially loved spending time with his daughter, Alexa. He found the love of his life in Heather and they were busy planning their wedding for 08-08-08. He also enjoyed golf and bowling, along with spending time with his numerous friends. He was an avid Fighting Sioux Hockey Fan

Survivors include his fiancée, Heather Eastling of Grand Forks; his mother, Judy (Terry) Salo of Great Falls; a daughter, Alexa of Grand Forks; a sister, Erika (Tyler) Duncan of Bozeman; his birth mother, Rose (Bob) Glaser of Mandan, N.D.; two half brothers, Jon (Julie Wrede) of Maplewood, Minn., and Eric (Kelli) Glaser of Littleton, Colo.; and three stepbrothers, Scott, Dirk and Nick Salo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lovelien.
