Robert Douglas Anderson, 95, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at ECM Hospital after an extended illness. He was a member of the VFW, retired from the U.S. Post Office and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having served on Iwo Jima.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Greenview Funeral Home. The graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating will be Charles Abernathy.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Anderson; parents, James and Ida Anderson; great-granddaughter, Lindsey Nicole White; brothers, W.E. and J.D. Anderson; and a sister, Lucille Anderson Hardison.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Stalions Anderson; sons, Jody Anderson (Teresa), R.D. Anderson Jr.; daughter, Linda Sue White (Edwin); daughter-in-law, Sue Olive Anderson; grandchildren, Bobby, Becky and Bonnie Anderson, Bill White (Sallie), Jeff White (Cindy), Chris White (Laura), Blair White (Cheron), Curt Anderson (Megan), Patrick Anderson (Mandi), Tina Whitworth Aday (Pat); great-grandchildren, Emma and Cade Anderson, Andrew, Conner, Stephanie, Ellie, Walker, Sarah, Emily and Luke White, Damien, Patrick Jr. (PJ) and John Aday.
Pallbearers will be Bill White, Jeff White, Chris White, Patrick Anderson, Blair White and Curt Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Shoals Sam's Camping Club.
A special thanks to Drs. Webb and Scarbrough, andthenursesand staff of the sixth floor at ECM Hospital.
