Lewis E. Adkins was born February 6, 1894, in Elk Township to William and Eliza Adkins. His surviving siblings are Roy Adkins of Evansville, IN; Ray Adkins of Bicknell, IN; Alma Van Cleve of Carbondale and Orbie Graff of Dowell. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
He married Edna Morris in 1937. She died in 1977. His surviving child is Jeff Adkins of Palo Alto, CA.
Mr. Adkins was a retired insurance broker for Great West Life Insurance Co. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
He died at the age of 93 on Friday, August 21, 1987 in Jackson County Nursing Home. His funeral service was held in Huffman Funeral Home (Carbondale).
