Shannon Austin Coad lived a much too short but productive life. She was born on June 19, 1973, and left this earth for the better one promised by our Lord on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010. Shannon is survived by her loving family: her husband, John; her sons, Jacob and Jackson; her mother, Sherrie and husband Jim; and her mother-in-law, Laura, all of Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Lauryn and husband Wes of California; and sister-in-law Carol, husband J.B. and their son, Benjamin, Texas; and numerous other extended family and friends. Shannon grew up in San Angelo, Texas, where she attended elementary, junior high, high school and college. She graduated from Angelo State University with her B.S. and M.S. in biology. Her passion for education and the pursuit of knowledge didn't stop upon completion of her master's degree. She went on to teach biology at Howard College where she was employed at the time of her death. Shannon never viewed her time at Howard as a job. It was her calling. She had a gift for helping people find their inner strength. She inspired many to take a long, hard look at who they really are and to act on their full potential. As a mother of special needs children, Shannon was committed to educating others about Autism Spectrum Disorder. She worked tirelessly as an advocate for her children. Shannon wasn't all business. She knew how to have fun. She was a participant in fantasy football and could make a mean pot of chili. She recently qualified for her second time to cook in the infamous Terlingua Chili Cook Off. Shannon was a giver. She met her husband while donating blood. She even once said, "I gave a pint and I received the love of my life." She met her match with John. They both brought strong personalities to their marriage and their little apples didn't fall far from the tree. Shannon picked her friends. Carefully. If you were a part of her "inner circle" you both knew it and were honored to be a part. You were family. She was a fantastic scrapbooker and treasured her Saturday nights with her "peeps." John recognized her talent and allowed her to convert their formal living space into a "scrapbookers utopia" which the girls dubbed, "Casa Yoda." She was loyal, loving and eager to participate in everything life had to offer. Her exit from this life was premature and leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.

A celebration of her life was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at Johnson's Funeral Home with the Rev. Emmett Corker officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home.

Shannon DeAnn was born June 19, 1973 to Sherrie Conner Crosby and Danny Crosby @ Fort Knox Kentucky. Shannon like both of her brothers was perfect! That same beautiful Indian complexion with brown thick hair. Shannon was born full term and weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. She almost didn't make it, once she was born and breathing, the doctor was leaving the room when the midwife called him back because she stopped breathing. I thought "here we go again" and prayed that she live. She started breathing again after the doctor worked on her. She was perfect, beautiful, smart, loving most of all she love God. Sherrie and Danny divorced in 1973, when Shannon was 3 years old. I then married my second husband Jackson O'Neal Austin. Jack legally adopted Shannon DeAnn in 1979 when she was 6 years old. She was told from the very beginning what the adoption was and that she could meet her biological father any time she wanted to and that Jack and I would be glad to take her. I asked her when she was 14 if she wanted to go meet him, she said no. She never said any thing to me about it since. Then one day when Shannon was 19 years old she told me that her grandmother Teddena Poor took her to meet Danny Crosby (biological father). Shannon was very family oriented and wanted to understand what all had happened and wanted to create a connection with him and his family ESPECIALLY his daughter Lauryn (half sister) from his second marriage. Shannon did connect with Lauryn and loved her very much. Shannon eventually had her own family, two boys, Jacob and Jackson. It was then that she told me she understood so much more. She would have done any thing for her sister and her boys Jacob and Jackson Coad. She was loved very much. Her life was cut so short here on earth. They said she had a very rare undiagnosed disease for years. They said she had "Lupus anticoagulant" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupus_anticoagulant) When it showed up, it came on fast and there was nothing they could do. She went in the hospital one day, two days later she was gone. I will see her again in Heaven with her brothers Robby Lee and Christopher Dean and all the loved one's that have gone before. I will never forget. I will Love you forever, MOM
