She graduated from Teacher's College (now Winston-Salem State University) in 1933 with a degree in Home Economics. She worked as a home economics teacher for two years at P. S. Jones High School in Washington, NC, until she became a full-time home economics agent in Johnston County in 1935, a position she held for thirty years. After retiring from the Extension service, she helped head up the Council on Aging and continued her work for fifteen years.
In 2004 she was named Clayton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
She is survived by her son, Bobby Toole; nephews and nieces.
