C. D. SPEIR DIES

Count D'Estaing Speir, native of the Speir Plantation, Escambia County, Ala., near Brewton, where he was born March 21, 1854, died yesterday at his home on Pass Road.

His childhood and early manhood was spent in and around Brewton where his famiy was widely known.

He came to Biloxi in the early nineties to build a mill on Back Bay, for the Brewton Brothers. When this project was completed he bought a home and operated a small fruit and truck farm becoming an authority on the diversity of crops that this soil is able to produce. About fifteen years ago, he sold the farm and retired from active work.

For the past year, he has been in bad health, so that his death was not unexpected. Mr. Speir was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Angeline Stephens Speir, by twenty years and he is survived by his children,J. W. Speir, Misses Margaret and Alice Speir of this city, Mrs. Michael O'Brien of Pomona, Calif., G. M. Speir of Lucedale; Paul E. Speir of Shreveport and six grandchildren. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, the funeral will be from the home tomorrow afternoon at 3:30.
