Rev. Medlock was born in Childress County, Texas on October 12, 1919. He moved at an early age in a covered wagon to Lubbock, Texas and was a longtime resident of Ocean Springs. He was a retired pastor and member of Faith Christian Center of Ocean Springs. He was a homebuilder and inventor, holding several patents for his inventions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Cora Medlock; three brothers, Billy, Burl and Pete; two sisters, Wanona Moen and Ruth Hansford, all of Lubbock, Texas; and an infant daughter, Brenda Gayle Medlock.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gertrude Medlock of Ocean Springs; three children, Rev. A. Allen Medlock Jr. and wife, Nelda, of Ocean Springs, Rebecca "Becky" Hafford and husband, John, of Ocean Springs, and Jeanette Lindsey and husband, Chuck, of New Orleans; a special brother-in-law, Virgil Moen of Ranger Texas; and a special son- in- law, Harvey Speight of New Orleans; eight grandchildren, Dallas (Sara), Amber, Shelly Medlock and Cherie (Mike)Gross all of Ocean Springs, Richard (Madonna) Speight and Chad (Elizabeth) Speight, all of Northern, Va., Jason (Mary Jane) Polk of Columbus, Ohio and Jennifer (Carey) Speirs of Biloxi; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and his puppy, Blackie.
"Papaw", as Alfred was known, was loved by all who knew him and will always be remembered as kind and generous to anyone in need, often, perhaps helping angels unaware.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Christian Center on Government Street in Ocean Springs where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Southern Memorial Park.
